Ruecaer

Just wanted to show off my guitar, Ruecaer! He knows he’s inferior, but he takes it in strides. He’s currently not strung due to my persistence in re-conditioning his fretboard. Whoever the previous owner was did NOT take proper care of him. T_T For the longest time I though his fretboard was ebony and just not polished! GADS! =falls over= Yes, it was THAT black. Ah well. Repairs are long over-due! But I love him, regardless!

  1. Ooohh.. is that a Taylor? Martin? I didn’t know you played! I’ve been teaching myself how to play for the past 6 months. =) Quick question: how do you care for the fretboard? I mean, I’ve never had to take care of a guitar before…

  2. hehe, it’s a Kent (You can barely see that through the hole, lol) I’ve been working non-stop since about the end of May now, though. Been hard work. I was also playing on 12 guage strings and wondered why it was soooo hard! LOOOL!
Anyway, because the fretboard was SO bad, I’ve had to do some extensive research! Basically, if your’s is brand new, just wipe it down whenever you change your strings, with a clean cloth. Polish it about every 6 months or so with, believe it or not, Old English Lemon oil that you can find in Food Lion! LOL! The one bottle will last you for ages. Just put the least amount you can on it (a couple of drops for the entire fretboard) and it should keep well. ALSO! Be sure to wash your hands before you play to help keep it clean and looking good longer~! ku ku ku!
NOW! If your board was as bad as MINE still kinda is, let me know and I’ll cover that! =cackles=
    Oh the joy! *__*
    =hugs=

  3. Thanks! Mine is a “Fransiscan”. Yeah, I’ve never heard of it either. Korean knock-off I’m betting. It’s 25 years old. My sister played it for a week and put it away, with the strings still on. 25 years later I pick it up and start playing on the same strings! Granted, it’s slightly warped , just enough to mess up the action on the strings a bit. Still, it sounds and looks good for being what it is! I’ll just have to remember to wipe it down and polish it up! =)
    Thanks!! =^.^=

  4. EEP! I forgot to mention that if it’s a maple wood fretboard, then you don’t do anything to it, lol~! except for wipe it down… because it already has a finish on it. I think mine’s probably the same age as your’s, however, DO go change those strings! LOL! The guy at the guitar store chewed me out over mine, and they were only two years old at the time!!! T__T Kept saying I was gonna get tetnus, lol! But because they ARE brass, you don’t wanna get cut by them. So yeah, go get those strings changed! LOL! kekeke

  5. Well, these were nylon and copper-wrapped nylon. But I did change them out. I was worried that the tuners would break because I could see some cracks.
*sighs* They broke. I had to buy new tuners and install them myself. So it works now! With new strings! Huzzah!
