New Directions – Re-purposing your Focus

Often we get lost in the myriad mess of information in our daily lives.  Starting out with one idea or intention often merges into another or grows wildly out of hand.  This is true whether it is a project, process, or direction in your life.  It’s a good practice to, when this occurs, stand back and re-assess.  Is your focus specific or general?  Have you gone off course and need to start over, or have you broadened your horizons and it’s time to branch off?

Whichever is true for you, I present the case of this blog, Dreaming in Shades, as an example for tackling a project gone awry! Continue reading “New Directions – Re-purposing your Focus”

Troubleshooting Fix: Windows 10 Prevents XAMPP Starting

XAMPP Apache + MariaDB + PHP + Perl
Recently, I received a new laptop and the first thing I did was to immediately upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.  I have been over-joyed by the more intuitive OS setup and have been having a fun time re-installing my apps and tweaking things to my liking.  Still a long way to go, but not before running into one difficulty after another! Thus began my troubleshooting journey into XAMPP and Windows 10 Home edition.

Awesome Stumblings.

Because I needed an update….

So, got behind in a few things again, but staying afloat fairly well.  Had to slow down on drawing because it started coming harder, but staying strong at least!  Should have a few art updates soonish.  The hardest has been catching up on old, promised arts, but I am getting there and HAVE gotten some drawn, which is sooooo friggin’ good!

The most important part, I think, is that I can say I actually drew something for myself!  I haven’t done that in a very, very long time.  It just feels wonderful!  Even if it was nothing special.  Even if it wasn’t a dear to my heart character.  It just felt wonderful and free!

So, expect some finished stuffs soonish.  Yoshi!  Anyway, now on to a few links to some awesome stuff while I have the chance.

I came across this in passing and was just amazed by the beauty of the layouts presented in this article.  I had been thinking lately of how “generic” most journals were becoming.  Mine own being subjected to this fault as well.  But I did want the freedom to change things up a bit, do something a little more than the norm.  These collected journals are beautiful and stunning and simply inspirational!  Magazine style FTW!

Go check them out @ Bringing the Magazine to the Web.

Also from NetTuts+, a wickedly awesome bit of coding that I’ve been waiting YEARS for!  A way to make one element have multiple borders.  No more needing to use background images for just a simple box section!  I’m planning on using this for the comments section here, for starters.  Since, apparently, I never coded it for the DiS v.15 layout.  Um… oops?

Anyway, you guys have to go check it out!  Quick Tip: Multiple Borders with Simple CSS

Look Who’s Back, Ne?

So, folks, it has happened.  Tas-Tas is back online!  Been busy last two days doing ALL number of updates.

One important one was officially moving my journal from Blogger to WordPress.  After much deliberation, the notice that Blogger was discontinuing its ftp service made the decision for me.  It was quite a bit of a hassle getting it done.  I looked all over for a good tutorial/service on blogger-to-wordpress conversions, but most only stipulated that the blogger account needed to be hosted on blogspot.  In the end, I found this WONDERFUL tutorial, located here: , that made me realize it’d just be simplest to convert my ftp and personally hosted blogger journal to blogspot, and then convert through WordPress.  Painfully stupid, but seeing as how that service will be suspended, =shrugs=  there’s no reason to fuss over a one time deal.

Anyway, after all is said and done, you are now looking at the fresh install of Dreaming in Shades, WordPress hosted!  Lovely, isn’t it?  O_o;;;  I have to re-code my layout for WordPress, so it’ll be a few days before it’s back up.  For now, I’m enjoying the free WP layouts, lol!

I’ve also been having TONS of fun messing with the plugins/widgets/whatnots.  Setting it up for all sorts of time saving things for myself.  Expect to see just a few test posts in the future, but I’ll try and make sure they’re content worthy. ^_~

I hope to be more active shortly, but only after I’ve gotten most everything updated, lol!  Stay tuned, folks!

Now… time to go get some chow!

In an effort to become more active…

I’ve had ScribeFire installed for quite awhile now and I seem to use it for LJ predominantly… but I’ve decided to try it with blogger as well and to see how it goes for this journal.

I still haven’t decided if I want to make the full conversion to word press yet… can’t help but love the simplicity I get with blogger.  And also, I’ve been with them pretty much from the start but I like a lot of the features that Word Press offers.

So I remain undecided.  At any rate, plan on a new layout soon for this journal and for all journals all around, lol!  I’ve been a lazy bum design wise.  Ah well!

Ciao for now!

FireFox Portable Fun

Lately, I’ve been having great fun with the FireFox portable web browser and accompanying suite. Not much to do, but otherwise hanging in there! ^_~
